Queensland, which is still battling wild bushfires, could cop more horrendous weather with its first tropical cyclone of the year. Weather website Higgins Storms Chasing said a low developing in the Pacific, off the north east coast of Queensland, could develop into a cyclone next week. “If it does, it will become the first cyclone to develop in Australia for the 2018-19 seasons,” The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) said, in an average year, 10-13 tropical cyclones brew in the waters around Australia, four of which make landfall.
